If you’ve attended my Sugar Blues workshop, you know how detrimental sugar is to your body. If you’ve seen health documenataries, or you keep up with health and nutrition articles, you’ve read about the negative effects of sugar. If you haven’t heard, let me briefly fill you in.
Your life literally depends on you cutting back on sugar. Sugar is like a drug. The way the body reacts to sugar is the same as how it reacts to heroine or cocaine. The chemicals it releases in your brain makes it addicting. The more you eat, the more you want.
Sugar causes a lot of short-term side effects. It gives you instant energy, and then a little while later, you crash. You end up irritatable and moody. You get hungrier sooner. You might feel dizzy or lightheaded after eating sugar, or later, when your blood sugar falls. You might feel shaky. It might make you tired right away, or a little while later. You might feel depressed or anxious after eating it. You’ll definitely want more of it once you eat it.
What is happening is your body is pumping out an obscene amount of insulin every time you eat sugar. This is hard on your body. It’s also hard on your blood sugar levels, which skyrocket and then crash.
Long term, sugar intake could lead to obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, strokes, depression, hypoglycemia, thyroid issues, hormonal imbalances and so much more. Sugar causes inflammation in the body, which is the leading cause of every disease, from fibromyalgia and Crohn’s, to heart disease and cancer.
So, as you can see, it’s a REALLY good idea to give up sugar! But you have cravings for it, right? How do you cut back? How do you curb your cravings?
