I have a protein smoothie for breakfast every morning. I load it up with healthy fruits, vegetables, superfoods, nutritious extras and super liquids, and I blend it all up into an incredibly filling meal. Anyone who has attended one of my Green Smoothies 101 workshops knows all about the extras that I add to my smoothies!
Lately, I’ve been freezing cold while drinking my smoothies, because I’ve mostly been using frozen berries. I’ll usually instantly follow up the smoothie with a tea. I can’t live like that all winter. So now is when I have to start transitioning out of my summer smoothies and into my winter smoothies.
I’ve been avoiding bananas lately, for personal health reasons, so that makes creating warmer winter smoothies a bit trickier. Luckily, there are lots of other amazing ingredients to work with right now, such as apples, pears, pumpkins, cranberries, beets and pomegranates, along with hardy leafy greens, like kale and collard greens. These ingredients taste amazing together!
Over the weekend, I first had a pear and raspberry smoothie, which was delicious and highly recommended. The following day, I had the smoothie I’m about to share with you, which couldn’t be more seasonal and delicious.
I combined apple with pureed pumpkin and pomegranate seeds. Then I added a lot of extras, which are entirely optional for you, and then I finished it off with kale and liquids. These measurements are for my magic bullet, so feel free to use more or less of anything, and to throw in different bonus ingredients that you enjoy.
Smoothie recipes are never set in stone. Get creative!
